Rome Solo Travel
If you missed my Paris Travel Itinerary, you can check it out here.
Second stop for my Solo travel in Europe is Rome to check my 7 Wonders #bucketlist and attend Papal Mass in Vatican. This is my From Paris, I traveled to Rome by air through Vueling Airline to Rome Leonardo da Vinci International Airport. There is a direct train to Rome city center for €14 up to Roma Termini. I booked my accommodation in Residenzia Giustiniani – 4 bed dorm room. The hostel is clean and cheap and more importantly, the hostel is only 2 blocks away from the Rome Main station.
Day 1 – Vatican City and Papal Mass
📌I made sure that my Day 1 in Rome falls on a Sunday to attend the Papal Mass 🙏🏻😇in Vatican Square.
📌Papal Mass held in Vatican square is free. You can check the Papal Mass schedule here
📌Be there in the Vatican Square early, as much as possible an hour before the mass so that you can find an available seat.
📌After Papal Mass, grab some lunch in some pizzeria just right outside the Vatican square (North Gate).
📌Visit Castle Sant’ Angelo
📌After that, have a leisurely walk along River Tiber – cafes are available in the area. Don’t forget to have some gelato.
📌Window shopping along the way to the subway station. Let’s just have a chill and relax day, we will have a blast tomorrow.
📌Back to Roma Termini, purchased Hop on Hop off bus ticket. Just outside the Roma Termini are booths of HopOn HopOff bus company.
Day 2 Full day city tour by Hop on Hop off bus
🖌I recommend to buy a Hop On Hop Off (HOHO) Bus ticket, it will make getting around Rome easier. Though subway is available, but stations are sometimes far from the tourist spot you want to visit.
🖌There are several HoHo bus company in Rome – for example, Sightseeing Bus and Big Bus. For this day, i choose Big Bus Tour.
🖌Roma Termina is the main or stop #1 ng HOHO bus. But if you are far from the Roma Termini, check out the map here to see which stop is nearest to you..
🖌There are 1, 2 or 3days ticket, choose the 48hr so you will not be rush to finished and see everything in one day
🖌My first Stop is the Colosseum to avoid the crowd that may build up later in the morning.
🖌With your big bus tour ticket, you can purchase your Colosseum Ticket in their dedicated booth to skip the line inside the Colosseum. Just ask any of the BigBus tour agent for the exact location of the shop/booth.
🖌Just outside the Colosseum is the Roman Forum and Palentine Hill – these are ruins of the ancient Rome marketplace. Don’t forget to purchase the combo ticket of Colosseum, Roman Forum and Palentine Hill.
🖌Next stop is Trevi Fountain.
🖌After you say your wish and throw a coin in the fountain, explore the cobblestone roads and small alleys of Rome near the Trevi Fountain
🖌Another stop is the Pantheon, on the other hand it may not be as majestic as Pantheon in Paris, but still a good location to visit and know its history.
🖌Just few minutes walk from Pantheon is the Piazza Navona. You can just relax after a full day of touring, poeple watch and eat your dinner. Its is know for its picturesque appearance, fountains, cafe and restaurants.
🖌If you like to make a timelapse of one whole loop of the BigBus Tour like me, seat in front upper deck ng bus and set up your camera (gopro)
Day 3 Vatican Museum and St. Peters Basilica Tour
📍I booked a guided tour in Vatican Museum – purchase your ticket here.
📍It is advisable to buy your ticket online, the line in the museum for buying ticket is not a joke. It is super longgggg…
📍We started the tour by 10:30am, the tour is about 2hrs – in addition to the Vatican museum, it also include visit to Sistine Chapel and St. Peter’s Basilica
📍Moreover, see the famous ceiling of Sistine Chapel – Michelangelo’s masterpiece
📍Went back to St. Peter’s Basilica and get the chance to enter through the Holy Door (Passing thru the Holy Door gives pilgrims indulgence).
📍After St. Peters Basilica, take the Hop On Hop Off bus again. Visit the Piazza Venezia. I was not able to visit Spanish step (i forgot it actually😂). But if your time permits, you can still visit it as this is also one of the stop of Big Bus tour.
